Tech Talk Pets guides are research-based. We gather and compare published information so you can see a product’s features, costs, and trade-offs in one place before you buy. This page explains where that information comes from and how we use it.
Our sources
- Manufacturer specifications and manuals: features, dimensions, power requirements, compatibility, and stated limitations
- Published pricing and subscription terms: device prices, plan costs, and which features need a paid plan
- App permissions and privacy policies: what data a device and its app collect, share, and keep
- Independent reviews and owner feedback: recurring strengths, problems, and ownership issues reported by other reviewers and owners
- Recalls, FCC filings, and regulatory information, where relevant
How we compare
Each category has its own criteria:
- Cameras & monitoring: video quality, field of view, night vision, two-way audio, local vs. cloud storage, and what a subscription unlocks
- Feeding & hydration: capacity, portion control, behavior during Wi-Fi or power outages, cleaning, and filter or refill costs
- Safety & GPS: subscription cost, coverage, manufacturer-stated battery life, water resistance, and size
- Cat tech: cat size and weight limits, safety sensors, waste capacity, and recurring supply costs
- Smart home: platform compatibility, app and account requirements, and Wi-Fi requirements
- Privacy: data collected, account and permission requirements, security options, and data deletion
Where a figure comes from the manufacturer, such as battery life or range, we say so.
Keeping guides current
Prices, plans, and features change. Guides note when pricing and specs were checked (“as of [date]”), and we review published guides periodically and when we learn of a significant change.
What “research-based” means
Unless a guide says otherwise, we have not tested the products ourselves. Our guides don’t replace hands-on testing. They organize published information and owner reports so you can compare products clearly. If we test a product ourselves in the future, we will label it clearly in that guide.
Affiliate independence
Some links are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you buy through them. Brands can’t pay for coverage or for a better verdict, and commissions don’t change our comparisons. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Corrections
If you spot an error or an outdated price or spec, email support@techtalkpets.com. We review every report and update the guide when a correction is needed.
